I’m *not* going to read Goethe (sorry), but if it goes well and you’re looking for another old text on color that is wacky but also weirdly prescient you could do Edgar Cayce’s color theory book, which is all about different colors stimulating different psychic states because of how they vibrate. He was kind of full of it and kind of not? Like that saffron color of Buddhist monks robes? Supposedly very high vibration according to old Edgar, and who knows? But I have been in rooms painted that color and the color is, for lack of a better term, activating. Enervating, maybe? Unless you hate orange in all its permutations, I guess. Wonder what old Edgar would have to say about those people?
Oh wow. Yes, that sounds perfect. And also, bonkers? Which may be another way of saying "perfect," as a bit of contrast to the heavy sciencing side of things that we'll be doing. Thank you, Asha! Will investigate.
Apologies, Susan! Looks like the link in this 2022 newsletter isn't working now - but it looks like you found me now. I'll check in with Threadable and make sure my invite links are working when I get things rolling over there again...
I hope so too! It seems they're pretty early in their development cycle and still nailing everything down and tweaking features in terms of how it works. Comparing it with Substack's app (huzzah for the new Android version!) they seem much earlier on that curve? But I'm really enjoying seeing it come together like it's doing right now - after I bagged a super-cheap iPad on eBay so I could do it! (Until February, I was 100% Windows & Android).
i loved reading about Goethe’s color theory myself last year--it’s rather lovely and fascinating in a way. I’m also fascinated how i believe it influenced theories on theosophy, and waldorf school teachings on color. Theosophy has such a strange meandering trajectory through art, spiritualism, and education--bonkers!
Oh yay! So good to know you enjoyed the process of reading through it. And - I have no idea what theosophy is, and I'm just going to enjoy that feeling for a minute before going to Google.
*enjoys*
I am getting a strong "Freya is going to have the answers we need" vibe in the air here. Please feel free to nerd out wildly and yell at me if I wander onto the wrong track. Seriously.
also--Rudolf Steiner is who i was thinking of specifically with Waldorf, etc--apparently he was heavily influenced by Goethe and termed his mashup of theosophy as anthroposophy: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthroposophy

Well I found your circle. I thought the circle was called something other than Geology
I cannot find your circle on Threadable

Coolest app I heard about recently is available only on Apple? Color me surprised...
Hope it comes out on other platforms soon, sounds like a great idea!

Ha, getting a second hand iPad might do the trick!
:) thanks for the shoutout, Mike!
My pleasure. Thank YOU for writing such an interesting newsletter. :)

These people are just making things up and adding "-ophy" at the end, aren't they?
