Whilst schoolmates were getting enamoured with Tolkien, I was chumming up to Billy Bunter, and I am a not-so-proud owner of a linen-backed map of Friardale, the fictional location for Greyfriars School. I would sent it to you, but I'm too mean.

Your waxing lyrical about pondering maps may find echoes in these two by me:

Brilliant! Are you familiar with Scarfolk Council? If not already it might be right up your alley.

Love your Substack always but this one in particular as I share your fascination with maps both real and imagined. Here's a poetry project of mine that uses a Queens-lines only subway map to share poems about the borough: https://www.queensbound.com/ . . .

So Much Fun! The Guardian used to be brilliant with their 1st April pranks. I remember one article I read in 'early April" about tatoos. It was all about how dangerous they can be, especially when they get closer to the head, neck and face tattoos in particular. The article suggested that the ink, closer to the brain actually affects the brain and begins to eat away at the braincells. Which was why, the article said, people who get tattoos on their neck and face are not terribly smart. Maybe this is also why Pete Davidson, Post Malone and Jelly Roll are regretting theirs and are talking about getting them removed!

Relating to maps - Me Too! I also love maps and had/have the Tolkein map! My son had it on his wall, too as he read through The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings trilogy. In fact my son saw a map with a similar vibe of New Hampshire and was thinking of getting it, but instead wrote to the artist informing him one of the lakes was misnamed!
