I was a teenager during the ozone scare and Montreal resolution... it was HUGELY impactful on me, and forever on my own thinking as a climate advocate. It was profoundly inspiring to see the world come together to solve that problem. I keep hoping we'll do it again in time (and listening to Bill McKibbon again recently made me believe we can, since most of the world is actually on board now... just need to get my big dumb country back on track!)
(Which, yes, is also sensational reporting, but I have worked as a fact-checker for Dark History, including for that episode, and have to say I'm consistently impressed with their commitment to getting the facts right.)
I've often thought that what I do couldn't possibly make any difference when you think about the way some huge countries act, but then I realised that the oceans are made of gazillions of drops of water, and they all count. Thanks for the reminder to make a difference!
There is a very interesting read about UK peat bogs restoration which touches on what you've said. Maybe we need to look after this planet better...

Your writing and reporting are powerful and important. I want you to have a very large platform for it!

Fantastic piece, Mike!
Tangential, but it reminded me of the Dark History's podcast on deadly beauty tools (including tanning beds): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wr55saDn1vI

As always, terrific read, Mike. I had never heard of the incendiary balloons from Japan and killing people in Oregon. Fascinating stuff!
