I agree! There's nothing quite like waking up out of doors to the smell of a new, damp morning. Sadly my other half has maintained for a couple of decades that he's too old to sleep on the ground. And I, as a lone female, don't have the courage to do it by myself. But I remember how glorious it was.
I actually got settled happily into my yard one day last summer, just in the sleeping back, and was looking forward to it when I remembered that my neighbor's driveway had had bear poop a couple nights in a row. Inside I went. I don't mess with bears!
Very sensible! I'd be hard put to it to say what I'm actually afraid will happen. As a female, I was imbued with a non-specific existential dread by my mother, from a very early age. On one hand it has severely limited my life. On the other, I'm still here, so...
You’re definitely not alone. I was listening to an interview the other day about suburbs and urban planning, and they talked about a Twitter thread someone had started that asked, “If men had a 10pm curfew, what would change in your life?” and the most common response was “go running at night.”
